Range (Part 1)

Here’s something about dyslexia that’s very important to understand. Dyslexia is a clinical syndrome: that is, it’s a set of traits that occur together commonly enough to form a distinct and recognizable pattern, but that don’t have a single underlying cause. Dyslexia isn’t caused by a single gene or other source. Instead, dyslexia has many sources. One recent study identified over 40 genes that were associated with dyslexia. At the processing level, at least a half-dozen patterns–affecting sound and visual processing, memory, retrieval, etc–are associated with just the dyslexic challenges. So dyslexia isn’t simple, and neither are people with dyslexia.
