Welcome to all our of homeschooling parents–or should we say “fellow homeschoolers”, because back in the day we homeschooled our dyslexic and 2e learners, as well! This forum is a dedicated space for you to share your experiences–both triumphs and traumas–to ask questions, and to support each other on this incredible journey.

To get us started, we’d love to hear about your homeschooling journeys. What inspired you to homeschool? What has been your biggest joy? And what have been your biggest challenges–both those that you’ve learned from, and those you’re still working through?

No matter where you are in your journey – just starting out, a seasoned veteran, or even still just thinking about it – we welcome your thoughts!”

Hello! My name is Emily, and we are in our ninth year of homeschooling. We originally started down this path because our oldest child was a very early reader. The kindergarten classroom didn’t seem like the best fit for him academically, and I wanted him to have more time to play. We decided to try it for a year and then reevaluate for first grade. Nine years later we still homeschool. Our second and third children are both dyslexic/2e learners, and homeschooling has provided a great way for us to accommodate all three of our unique learners. I have been so thankful for the opportunity to embrace my children’s strengths in the homeschooling environment. Suspecting and learning that two of our children are dyslexic thinkers has been at times challenging and overwhelming, yet also, there has been relief, because the more we learned about dyslexic brains so many other things began to click into place about the challenges our children have as well as their strengths. I am very excited to connect with and learn from other homeschooling parents on this forum!

Hi Emily, Thanks for sharing! Your story really points out the way that homeschooling can be a great option for kids who “fall outside the lines” in a lot of different ways, and allows customization for dyslexic, gifted, or 2e kids. I hope other families will benefit from your 9 year experience! Feel free to share your experiences on this board also with any of our tools for learning, or the information in the Guided Learning Path.
