What is dyslexia?

Throughout my adolescence, I had a hunch that I had some form of dyslexia, but my good grades made friends and family dismiss the idea. Elementary school was a constant battle when it came to reading and writing. Reading aloud in class was always a source of embarrassment. My grades improved in middle school when I realized I had to work 3x harder than my peers to receive A’s and B’s. From there on out, my peers and family started to perceive me as “smart,” despite I was grappling with comprehension and spelling challenges.

Now, as a parent guiding my own children’s reading and writing journey, my past struggles resurfaced in a glaring spotlight. A colleague randomly introduced me to Neurolearning, which prompted me to take their screener. Lo and behold, the results confirmed my suspicions. The interactions with Dr. Eide, proved enlightening and reignited my curiosity about the subject. This led me to their book, “The Dyslexic Advantage,” which delivered an unexpected revelation. The book is filled with inspiring stories of individuals who transformed their dyslexia into assets, coupled with valuable insights of dyslexic brain strengths. I wish I had come across this book and screener sooner. It would have saved me years of personal troubleshooting.

My daughter was finally diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia by a neuropsychologist. Your program is accurate, and it gave me the confidence to keep pushing despite no one else believing me. I appreciate that you have it available. I highly recommend it when people ask about screening options.

I was very impressed with this screening app. I was looking for something to support or rule out my suspicions about dyslexia. The results, though not an official diagnosis, gave me a good overview of the issues and concrete steps and recommendations on where to go/ what to do next. Navigating a potential dyslexia diagnosis can be very confusing and daunting. This app was a great first step in bringing clarity to the issue. I would definitely recommend it!

We have wondered about the possibility of dyslexia for our 7-year-old, second-grade daughter due to some of her reading, writing, and speech articulation challenges. We investigated neuropsych evaluations, and they cost up to $5,000 and have either no availability or wait lists that are 9+ months out. We didn’t want to wait that long to start interventions, and we found this app to give us some data.

The screening test took about an hour. Immediately, we found out that she scored in the very high dyslexia risk category, confirming many of our suspicions. Our daughter already has an IEP at her school for speech therapy, and we shared these test results with the school, along with our concerns, and the school psychologist is going to perform an evaluation, which saves us thousands of dollars and the wait time.

Dr. Eide corresponded with us over email to help us understand our daughter’s results and give us personalized advice on next steps. Her screener result also enables her to have free access to bookshare, a very large library of books that can be listened to on text to speech readers. Overall, we are so impressed and grateful to have found this app. A sincere thank you!!

Having my children do the test and receiving a comprehensive feedback in a way that I, a non technical person, can understand has been invaluable. The follow up from Dr Eide and his recommendations and guidance for each of my children has been a game changer in our homeschooling. Also, I’ve noticed a huge improvement in the past year or so since I’ve implemented these changes. Thanks Dr Eide and keep up the good work🙌🏼

I am grateful to have found and used this app. After doing the test in the app, I received a detailed report quickly and a follow-up email from Dr. Eide. Thanks to Dr. Eide, I came to learn about the resources for people with dyslexia, such as voice dream reader and bookshare. Without this app, I wouldn’t be able to understand the condition that has been affecting me for long. Now, I can fully enjoy reading. Thank you very much to Drs. Eide and everyone who maintains this app.

As a homeschooling parent, I have found this app test to be invaluable. Neither my husband nor I have any struggles with dyslexia, so when two of our three kids started showing difficulties in learning to read and spell, we knew we had to dig in and figure out what to do. We quickly found that getting a formal diagnosis of dyslexia can be very difficult and costly, so we began to explore other options. After much research, we found Neurolearning. Neurolearning gave us the data we needed to direct the education of our dyslexic children. The test was easy to take (our kids were 7 and 8 when they took it) and the kids enjoyed it because it felt like they were playing a game. The report we received afterward was filled with helpful information and resources. We especially appreciated the personal emails from Dr. Eide after taking the test – this extra touch was hugely helpful, especially for one of our kids who we consider to be a “stealth dyslexic”. Highly recommend.

This process has been a great experience. My son is 12 & going to the 8th grade. I’ve homeschooled him from age 5 until now. SO much struggling, sadness, frustration & anger over the years! We realized my husband is dyslexic as an adult, so when my son wasn’t learning to read, I knew something wasn’t right. This test & report are so worth it!!! Also the personal emails are wonderful! I’ve learned so much from this experience. I feel like this year is going to be so much better!!
